Quite often we are asked: Why is it important to consume protein?
Consuming Protein throughout the entire day is essential for optimum muscle growth and recovery. Proteins are made up of long chains of amino acids which are the building blocks of the muscle cell in your entire body. Without them, it would be impossible to build, repair or even maintain muscle tissue that is damaged during training.
That means: Key to Gaining Muscle or Weight Loss is Protein Consumption!
How do we know if we are getting enough protein?
We have found that consuming approximately 30-40 grams of protein in your main meals (3-5 times) throughout the day allows for complete muscle recovery between workouts. It is recommended that consuming 1 gram of Protein per 1 pound of body weight with your daily meals will ensure you are in an anabolic state all day long. Anabolic state ensures you’re not using your muscle as an energy source thus allowing for muscle growth.
Common Foods that contain protein include: Eggs, Meat, Fish, Milk and Soy.
Additionally, Whey protein has one of the highest value of the proteins, at 100%. This means it provides adequate nutrition to your body. For this reason, I recommend you to have a protein drink before and after your workout, one that contains a pure whey protein concentrate and/or isolate. These protein sources still retain their biological value allowing them to be easily broken down and digested rapidly in the body.
